Osservatorio Giochi

General Election 2010: Bookmakers expect record £25m of election bets

William Hill spokesman Graham Sharpe said the bookie's biggest election bet so far was a £9,000 wager, but added: "Like in football, the high-rollers don't usually come in until a minute before kick-off. If you're betting in six figures, you want to make sure no-one says anything really stupid on a televised debate." Ciaran O'Brien, Ladbrokes' spokesman, said "the betting is as volatile as the opinion polls" boosted this time by being "a genuine contest" There could yet be a re-run too. Hills offers 3/1 on two elections this year – though you can get twice those odds on Betfair.

How betting on a Conservative majority (blue), hung parliament (yellow) or Labour majority (red) has changed in the past three years
As the tapes rose on Tuesday on the race to Number 10, bookies unveiled a wide field of wagers ranging from most seats and winners of all 649 constituencies to the next chancellor and the date for Gordon Brown's resignation.
Much betting interest so far has focused on a hung Parliament – though the odds have lengthened in recent days on both betting exchange Betfair and with traditional bookies, such as William Hill and Ladbrokes. Betfair has no overall majority at 2-1 and Ladbrokes at 15/8, though Hills is only 6/4.

Le Pharaon casino in Lyon was the target

LYON, France, April 5 (UPI)   A team of masked thieves burst into a crowded French casino, fired their assault rifles into the ceiling and made off with nearly $39,000, police say.

The Sunday snatch and dash at the Le Pharaon casino in Lyon took just 3 minutes, Radio France Internationale reported Monday. The headquarters of the international police agency Interpol are just down the street.

It was the third high-profile casino robbery in Europe recently. The other two were in Switzerland and Germany.

At the Lyon gambling venue, four men used an angle grinder to break into the cashiers' area, while an accomplice waited outside. They all fled in a black BMW. Two security guards received minor injuries.

"They moved very quickly, they were there for barely 2 minutes -- the time it took to get into the cashiers using the angle grinder," a police investigator said.

Favorite Gambling Songs - Top poker and casino songs

Las Vegas is the gambling and entertainment capital of the world, known as much for its magic, comedy, and miscellaneous jaw-dropping shows as its casinos and casino games. Vegas, which has taken on an almost larger-than-life personality, is a city unlike any other with its bright lights and non-stop action. Its highs and lows have been captured in movies like "Leaving Las Vegas," on television shows such as "Las Vegas", and of course, in song. We've all heard the phrase "you gotta know when to hold ‘em, know when to fold ‘em," just one of the most popular casino songs that people love to sing in Vegas casinos, especially when they win.

New laws in Nevada

New laws in Nevada It has been speculated that the Nevada Gaming Control Board is now creating rules to govern the land-based casino operators once the federal government regulates the online gambling industry and gives the green light to Nevada legislators which would then permit Las Vegas casinos to legally offer gambling over the Internet.
While their are strict guidelines when it comes to advertising the casinos in Las Vegas, the laws are unclear when it comes to online gambling and advertising over the Internet. The NGCB as well as government legislators plan to draft rules and regulations for the online gambling industry. They want to make sure that all of the rules and regulations in Las Vegas and the rest of Nevada are up-to-date. Once online casino gambling is legal within the United States, the land-based casinos will rush to enter the new market.
The NGCB wants to make sure that the same rules and protections are in place for online gambling that protect land casino operators, their employees, and patrons in the state of Nevada. The casino operators in Las Vegas have been able to advertise free casino games because online gambling is legally a grey area in Nevada.
